Angelina decides to partake in the upcoming tournament and because she lacks experience in the formalities she is granted a squire to assist her. Patrick takes a stroll around the castle and discovers a forbidden room he must see.
Meanwhile Raven has just finished work at one of the leatherworking shops in town and is enjoying a nice bath at a bathhouse. Serbitar enters the same bathhouse and bubbles joins the party (in house joke). A page arrives to summon them both to the castle. Upon arrival they are shown to their rooms, 7 rooms having been set aside the 2 extra being for Alain and Leon. Raven refuses the room, wanted rather to stay with the common people and avoid the nobles. He is told that there he is invited to breakfast tomorrow where Merlin, Garland Tarn to the heroes, will present them with the items they lost in The Savage Lands. But before he leaves Athena tells him and Serbitar what transpired at the end of The Once and future.
Before breakfast Angelina confronts Galahad in private about his powers. She cuts the palm of her hand and as she is about to heal it herself Galahad does it for her. She cuts her other palm and does the same. She discovers that Galahad, just as she thought, is a Paladin as well.
Everyone sits down at the breakfast table and a prayer is said. Galahad stares intently at Raven, not a friendly inch of an expression to be found on his face. Finally Garland Tarn arrives, being called Merlin by everyone, and he and Serbitar are reunited. After breakfast is over Raven walks up to Galahad, Raven liking Galahad’s directness and thus wanting to sort this animosity out quickly. Upon reaching Galahad he asks him if he’d like to go somewhere private and talk this out. Galahad replies that he doesn’t want to go anywhere with a liar, thief and killer such as Raven. And that he even thinks he can see some kinslayer in Raven’s past. This sets Raven off and he punches Galahad right there in the face. Men storm between them one of them being Angelina and she asks what Raven did. Raven replies: “Oh yeah… take his side!” and storms away. Angelina asks Galahad what transpired and he says that he deserved it. She tries to go after Raven, but the stealthy rogue had disappeared.
Angelina calls Galahad an asshole and goes out for a run and some exercising to clear her mind and the rest of them wait eagerly for a meeting with Garland Tarn that Serbitar makes sure that not even Raven misses. When they get there Garland gives the heroes all their items back. Finally the heroes thought, finally we get some answers. Garland says that he opened the portal that took them to this place. He says that the undead attack in Seawell was all a part of someone’s plan to get them here. He also says that he believes Pinbacker to be one of the good guys, even after hearing what he did in Hazuth Kleg, Garland even justified some of it. He says that one of each of our parents is from this place. He finds it weird that we ended up in Oriab since he wanted us to end up with him in Camelot. When Serbitar tells him that he was lead out of his house as a young boy by a talking cat that told him that his father was coming in his room to kill him, Garland froze. He said he didn’t have any time to talk and that he must leave immediately and that he would answer all our remaining questions once he got back. Before he left he told Angelina that her family was to be found here in Camelot.
Serbitar’s foundation was shaken. Unsure what to think of his father and feeling badgered by Raven’s questions about it, Serbitar could not discuss it and needed some time alone. Angelina went to see her relative and Patrick decided to enroll himself in the tournament. While Athena decided to get some work in a Blacksmith.
While the others spent the next three days in the court Raven could not face the place where he had been called a kinslayer. He instead sought a foothold that he could relate to and purchased the Leatherworking shop where he had worked his first day in Camelot. He renamed it Raven’s Leather Emporium and preceded to get it ready for the big upcoming tournament. On the eve before the 1st day of the tournament he asked Galahad to meet him in the shadows of an ally at nighttime. Surprisingly he agreed. Raven told him that if he could see all the things Raven had done he could also see that he repented those actions and that he was doing all in his power to atone for them. To have good men like Galahad treat him like he did only made him likelier to revert to the man he used to be instead of the man he was now. In Raven’s opinion men like Galahad should strive to see the good in him and help him cultivate it. Raven admitted that he needed help in his redemption and how Galahad treated him wasn’t it. So he asked him to be his friend while he still bore the flag of atonement and help him cultivate his new values and beliefs.
Athena was going to enter the tournament but she decided rather to take Raven’s job offer as cute eye candy to sell items during the day and blacksmith for the store during the evenings. The first day of the tournament came and sadly Serbitar’s team lost. Although it was highly noted how brave Serbitar was to firstly go in there unmounted and secondly charge at the biggest man there. King Arthur dispatches Tristram on an unannounced errant.
Serbitar, now a young man, accompanies Garland Tarn to the City. Garland reveals nothing of the purpose of the journey but they head into a shop and meet up with Algae Wand Rant who gives Garland a package, a sword wrapped in cloth. Garland hands the glassmaker a bag and then they depart. They later meet up with Rothchild and hand him the sword. Rothchild asks Garland to get the word to Marshal.
